At CHQM, there were Programs with names. This was all part of the station's founding and continuing focus on Music, not Personalities: the QM in CHQM stood for Quality Music. Although CHQM announcers were well known by name, they announced the time slot's Program Name more often than their name.
Here are some of them:
| Program Name | Time Slot |
| Q for Music | 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. |
| Q on the Aisle | 9:00 a.m. to noon |
| Limelight | noon to 4:00 p.m. |
| Carousel | 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. |
| Candlelight & Wine | 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. |
| Starlight Concert | 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. |
| Gaslight | 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. (to midnight beginning September 1971) |
| Comedy Spot | 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sundays |
| Perspective | Bill Bellman's editorial during the noon and 6:00 p.m. half hour News packages |
Candlelight and Wine was the best known, enough to generate a parody by Vancouver's best, J. B. Shane. When he had the same air shift on CFUN/CKVN as CHQM's Candlelight and Wine, he decided that his program needed a name, too, so he named it Candlelight and Swine.

To conform to a severe reduction by the CRTC in the allowed limit on simulcasting of AM and FM stations, effective September 1, 1971, CHQM made some subtle changes. Some voice-tracked programs, like Starlight Concert and Gaslight, were aired one night on CHQM-AM and repeated the next weeknight on CHQM-FM.
Newscasts for FM were pre-recorded, and aired simultaneously with the live AM newscast at the top of the hour.
